The Asian Para Games 2018 has been officially opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. No less with the excitement of the opening of the 2018 Asian Games, the opening of the Asian Para Games was also filled with various interesting performances which mostly featured the talents of people with disabilities. Carrying the theme ‘The Wealth of the Sea’ the opening of the Asian Para Games at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) was colored by a number of Indonesian dances and regional songs. President Joko Widodo, accompanied by his wife Iriana Jokowi, witnessed this opening. The stage used is curved in the shape of an equator that crosses Indonesia which is the emerald of the equator. The traditional element began the Asian Para Games 2018 opening ceremony. The 2018 Opening Asian Para Games involved 1,500 dancers from various backgrounds.
‘We Are One’ is a representation of the spirit of the 2018 Indonesia Asian Para Games. This story is about Indonesia’s diversity. Ranging from ethnic and cultural diversity, to the diversity of religions and beliefs through a glowing icon. However, from that diversity was born unity in the form of Pancasila.
The Opening Asian Para Games 2018 is done by Jay Subiyakto as Associate Creative & Set Designer, Chitra Subiyakto as Costume Designer, and Andy Rianto as Music Director. When the Red and White flag was raised, the little singer Shanna Shannon sang the national anthem of Indonesia Raya.
Actor Reza Rahadian and Tuki Surya Sahetapy activists present a life reflection dialogue that embraces diversity. The dialogue ends with the light formation bearing the Garuda. Then the event continued with a parade of 43 2018 Asian Games participating countries. Interestingly, as the sixth Chinese defile entered by unfurling banners reading “Hello Indonesia”.
Giant Komodo dragons were also featured in the Opening Games of the 2018 Asian Games. The thing that was most central to the audience’s attention was when Jokowi archery with a disabled girl from Pekanbaru named Bulan Karunia Rudianti.
Bulan Rudianti’s gift entered the stadium accompanied by her father.

He came down from the VVIP room and approached Bulan.
They were seen chatting for a while until finally Bulan handed over an carved box of Indonesian islands.
Jokowi opened and revealed the contents of the box to the audience.
In the box there is Ability writing. A few moments later, Jokowi took off his jacket and then took a bow. Bulan and one of the archery athletes with disabilities did the same thing. The three then aim at each letter “D”, “I” and “S” which originally formed the word “Disability” so that it becomes “Ability”, like the writing in the box.
Not to miss, Asia Paralympic Committee (APC) President Majid Rashed expressed deep concern and sorrow over the earthquake and tsunami disaster that hit Central Sulawesi.
“On behalf of APC and for people in Central Sulawesi, you will have our thoughts and prayers,” said Rashed.
“These are the most athletes and countries in Asian Para Games history and most media are reporting on this event,” he added.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) concluded the welcome session.
“On behalf of all Indonesian people, I am proud to welcome the presence of special guests from 43 countries. Through the Asian Para Games 2018 we want to celebrate brotherhood. We show perseverance and achievement and uphold humanity. I said Bismillahirrohmanirrohim I officially declared the Asian Para Games opened. Good luck, success, “said Jokowi in his speech while using sign language.
The opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Para Games was closed by turning on the Paralympic torch alternately by figures ranging from the Chairperson of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Senny Marbun, Menpora Imam Nahrawi, Personal (NPC General Secretary), Suharto (gold medalist FESPIC Games 1977) and Jendi Panggabean (Indonesian Paralympic Swimming Athlete).
Then it continued with the fireworks and closed with Song of Victory which is the theme song for the 2018 Asian Games.
The 2018 Asian Para Games will be held in Jakarta from 6-13 October. In its third edition, the Asian Para Games was followed by 43 Asian countries in 18 sports with 512 match numbers.
