The proud news is now brought directly by Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo at the opening ceremony of The 37th Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO 37) held at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. In the event which was mostly attended by the engineer, Jokowi received the highest award The AFEO Distinguished Honorary Patron Award for his contribution in building infrastructure that is useful for the people. The award was given by engineering organizations from 10 ASEAN countries that are members of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO).
The AFEO Distinguished Honorary Patron Award is given at each conference event to one recipient at the level of head of state or head of government of a country. President Jokowi said he felt unworthy of receiving the highest award. According to him, those who deserve the award are Indonesian engineers. “This award should belong to Indonesian engineers,” he said at the Cafeo037 event, at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, Wednesday (09/11/2019).
AFEO Chairman who also serves as Chair of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Heru Dewanto, as quoted in his press release said that the award was the highest AFEO award given to heads of state or heads of government who were considered to provide services and major contributions to the engineering profession and engineering field in a country.
“Thanks to the enactment of the Engineering Law, now PII as a professional organization is getting stronger. This is an extraordinary contribution to the homeland engineers who are working real behind every infrastructure project. With the massive development in this country also makes us believe that President Jokowi is very deserving of this highest appreciation “Heru said.
“Indicators relating to infrastructure have increased. For example, the infrastructure index increases, so our competitiveness also rises, “he explained.
On the other hand, AFEO, according to Heru, also gave appreciation of development. According to Heru, the impact of the development carried out by Jokowi has been widely felt by the community.
To note, the same award at the 36th conference held in Singapore in 2018 was given to Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
