Forbes under 30 Asia 2020 has recently released a list of Asian youth who are considered to excel on the international stage. As many as 30 athletes under the age of 30 collected from the Forbes assessment have the names of athletes from Indonesia who contributed to the list of young athletes who excel, they are Marcus (29 years) and Kevin (24 years) who are now still in the status of “world number one” as badminton players. In an announcement on its official website, Forbes wrote a brief note about Kevin / Marcus’ achievements. The narrative goes like this:
“Indonesian badminton players Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo are currently ranked No.1 in the world for men’s doubles. In 2018, the pair won eight BWF World Tour titles and were named Favorite Male Duo and Athlete of the Year at the Indonesia Sport Awards At the 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championship in Manila, Gideon and Sukamuljo were part of the Indonesia men’s team that won gold “.
Forbes noted, in 2018, the world number one pair won eight titles from the BWF World Tour tournament. Both were also awarded as Favorite Male Duo and Athlete of the Year from the Indonesian Sport Awards.
Then, in 2020, Kevin and Marcus helped strengthen the Indonesian men’s team to succeed in getting a gold medal at the Asian Badminton Team Championship in February. In short, Indonesia’s best men’s doubles are indeed worthy of being included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2020 list.
Of course, this acknowledgment from Forbes is proud of Marcus / Kevin, even Indonesian badminton. Because, only them, the only Indonesian badminton player / partner in the list of 30 names chosen by Forbes.
In fact, for the Asian level, The Minions – nicknamed Marcus and Kevin became the only men’s doubles pair to enter the list. In fact, some men’s doubles couples in Asia who are under 30 years old, also have brilliant achievements.
Call it the Chinese men’s doubles pair, Li Junhui / Liu Yuchen who are both still aged 24 years and are 2018 world champions and 2018 Asian champions. Or Malaysian men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia (23 years) and Soh Wooi Yik (22) who his appearance continued to skyrocket.
However, for matters of achievement in the global realm, Marcus and Kevin are cooler and more stable than the two Chinese and Malaysian couples.
In fact, in the last two years, Marcus and Kevin won more BWF World Tour titles than any men’s doubles. They are also still lingering in the world number 1 position.
