The General Election Commission (KPU) has determined through national recapitulation of the results of the elections held simultaneously on April 17, that the majority of the Indonesian people still want to be led by Joko Widodo. The announcement of the results of the recapitulation was submitted by the KPU in the plenary meeting at the KPU building, Jakarta, Tuesday (05/21/2019) early morning. “The number of valid votes for the presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair number 02 Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno was 68,650,239 votes,” said KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting Manik was reported by detik.com.
The plenary meeting was held after the KPU completed national recapitulation in 34 provinces and 130 foreign election committees (PPLN). In detail, Jokowi-Amin excels in 21 provinces including Bali, Bangka Belitung, North Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Gorontalo, West Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, DIY, East Kalimantan, Lampung, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, East Java, NTT, Central Java , Riau Islands, DKI Jakarta, West Papua, North Sumatra, Maluku and Papua.
Whereas Prabowo-Sandi won in 13 provinces such as Bengkulu, South Kalimantan, North Maluku, Jambi, South Sumatra, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sumatra, Banten, NTB, Aceh, West Java, South Sulawesi, and Riau. The Chair of the KPU Arief Budiman then read out the decision on the results of the national recapitulation of the 2019 Presidential Election, the election of DPR members, members of the provincial DPRD, regency/city DPRD, and DPD. Arief then tapped the hammer for the determination of the recapitulation results.
In addition to the KPU commissioner, the plenary meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the Election Supervisory Body Abhan and his staff. The witnesses from the Jokowi-Amin pair included I Gusti Putu Artha, while the Prabowo-Sandi pair was Azis Subekti.
Based on the existing provisions, the Prabowo-Sandi pair can still submit disputes over the results of the 2019 Presidential Election to the Constitutional Court (MK). If in three days no dispute is submitted, the KPU can determine the elected president and vice president of 2019-2024. The rules regarding the deadline for submitting a dispute claim over the election results are regulated in Article 474 and 475 of the Election Law.
After the waiting period for the dispute lawsuit ends, the KPU will determine the elected candidate from the election which is not disputed by the results.
Determination of elected candidates for election results has been regulated by the Election Law. The policy states, the determination of elected candidates can be done a maximum of 3 days after the waiting period for the dispute.
Arief had explained that the determination of elected candidates could be done simultaneously. That is, it could be that the Indonesian KPU sets out elected candidates from the Presidential Election first if the dispute lawsuit is submitted against the results of the legislative election.
