“Country is the way you live, not the way you look.” Perhaps the quote from country singer Earl Dibbles Jr. is very suitable to describe one of the Indonesian government’s programs in making a decent quality of life for its people, namely the one million house-managed program by the Indonesian Real Estate Company (REI) which recently received international recognition in the form of a medal of honor from the World Real Estate Federation (FIABCI). The award was made at the 70th world congress held at the World Trade Center, Moscow, Russia on May 27-31, 2019.
“The award in the form of a medal of honor was given to me because it was credited with introducing a government housing program, especially the one million house policy proclaimed by President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla,” said General Chair of the Indonesian Real Estate Company (REI), Soelaeman Soemawinata told reporters in Jakarta, Monday 10 June 2019.
In 2017, REI contributed significantly in the one million home program, by building 374,000 housing units, which consisted of subsidized houses of 206,000 units and 168,000 non-subsidized houses. Whereas in 2018, REI again built 389,000 houses, consisting of 214,000 subsidized houses, and 175,000 non-subsidized houses. “This means that every year, REI contributes almost 40 percent of the one million home program,” said Soelaeman.
Soelaeman said, with the achievement of this honor medal, it shows that Indonesia has become one of the world benchmarks in the development of real estate, housing, and the development of new cities. In the congressional event in Moscow, Russia, Indonesia also received the Prix D’Excellence Award, which is the highest award for the best works in real estate development in the world.
Awards for the hotel category were given to Four Seasons Jakarta, which received a gold award. Affordable home categories provided by Citra Maja Raya (silver), masterplan categories given to Ciputra Hanoi International City (silver), mall categories given to the Metropolitan Mall Cileungsi (silver). The office category was given to Green Office Park 9 BSD (Perak), and the category of sustainable development was given to Green Office Park 9 BSD (silver).
According to Soelaeman, by joining a world organization as big as FIABCI, national developers can build a strong network in the world, both the latest information on the concept of world real estate development, and build investment networks with world organizations, as well as world investors who have experience in real industry development estate.
In his press release, FIABCI World President, Assen Makedonov said that in the past two years FIABCI Indonesia had made a big leap and had become one of the most influential chapters on FIABCI World. This is because many work programs have been implemented by FIABCI Indonesia, both at national and international levels.
